NullYield is a repository for research that did not produce the expected result. That includes null findings, inconclusive work, partial successes and attempts to reproduce earlier results.

Each field has its own record types and method details, from reaction conditions and survey design to archival sources and practice-based work.

About NullYield

Choose Contribute, select an available research field and choose the type of work you tried. You can start with AI drafting or choose Fill in manually.

Describe what you tried, what you expected and what happened. Keep observations separate from interpretation, and leave unknown optional details blank.

Reading and submitting research on NullYield will remain free for researchers. You retain your existing rights in your contributions. By making a research record public, you grant NullYield a non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, distribute and sublicense its research content for commercial purposes, including as part of datasets. This licence excludes private and group-only records, original notes, account information, questions and replies. Confirm the licence when saving a public record. Accepting updated Terms alone does not license existing submissions. Dataset services are not available yet.

Choose one starting method for each draft. Use Notes to paste or type research notes. Use Photo to upload an image, read its text and check the transcription before creating a draft.

Photos can be JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB. Selecting Read photo sends the image to OpenAI for transcription. PDF and Word uploads are not supported. The photo is not saved as an attachment to the research record.

Choose a field to start

Compare the suggestions with your original notes. Check the methods, quantities, observations and evidence, and correct anything uncertain or wrong. For Chemistry, also check compound names, SMILES and yield or conversion.

Creating or saving a private draft does not publish it. AI suggestions are not scientific peer review or independent verification of a finding.

About AI and review

Public records can be viewed by anyone. Private records are visible to you and site administrators. Group records are also visible to accepted members of the selected group.

Original notes stay private to you and site administrators when you share a record. Private drafts stay private. Choosing AI drafting or image transcription sends the relevant notes or image to OpenAI for processing.

You retain your existing rights in your contributions. By making a research record public, you grant NullYield a non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, distribute and sublicense its research content for commercial purposes, including as part of datasets. This licence excludes private and group-only records, original notes, account information, questions and replies. The licence is agreed once in the Terms and applies when the owner saves a record as Public. Accepting updated Terms alone does not license existing submissions or earlier revisions; a later public save covers the content saved then, from that save onward. A content licence does not replace any required legal basis for processing personal information.

Open My records, select your record and choose Edit. Review the changes and save them. History & corrections shows saved versions and available before-and-after changes.

You can see a historical version only when you can access both that version and the current record. Original notes are excluded from revision history.

Open Questions below a record to ask about its methods, evidence or missing details. Questions follow record access; earlier private or group conversations remain restricted.

Use Report this record for a private concern sent to site administrators. Only you and administrators can see your report. Reporting does not automatically hide the record or send an email. My reports shows how your concern is being handled.

Keep a copy of your notes. Check that you are signed in with an invited account, have accepted the current Terms and have completed any visible security check yourself.

Read the message beside the form. If it asks you to wait, wait before retrying. For a connection or AI service error, try again later or use Fill in manually. If saving fails, check the required fields and any highlighted uncertainties.

Sign inGet help from the team

Use Sign in and choose an available Google or email-and-password sign-in method. Beta access may be restricted to invited addresses or domains. You must accept the current Terms before using account features.

If sign-in says your email is unverified, check your inbox and spam or junk folder, follow your sign-in provider's verification link and sign in again. NullYield does not reset provider passwords or bypass security checks.

Account shows your Terms status and account deletion controls. Connect ORCID is a coming-soon button; it does not connect an ORCID identity yet.

Choose Ask NullYield on any page for help using the site. Messages stay in the chat while you remain on that page. AI uses your message and up to four recent chat exchanges to select approved public guidance; unrelated or abusive requests are refused. The assistant cannot see your records or original notes. New chat clears the conversation, and reloading or leaving the page clears it too.

If the advice does not resolve a problem, choose Still need help? Prepare an email. You can review a draft for contact@nullyield.org, then edit and send it from your email app. The assistant does not send emails or create a support ticket automatically.

Use Feedback to open a message in your email application, or email contact@nullyield.org. Nothing is sent until you send the email yourself.

Describe which page you were using, what you expected and the error you saw. Avoid including passwords, API keys or confidential research and participant information.
