A repository for reactions that did not work

Help build a searchable database of failed reactions.

NullYield helps chemists preserve failed experiments in a structured, searchable format. Instead of leaving negative results buried in lab notebooks, teams can capture what was attempted, what happened, and what evidence supports the outcome.

What it records

Reaction class, reactants, intended product, SMILES, reagents, solvent, outcome, yield or conversion, evidence, and original notes.

Why it matters

Failed reactions contain useful decision-making data: conditions to avoid, substrates that behave poorly, and experiments that should not be repeated.

How to use NullYield

  1. 1

    Log in with Google

Use Google login so your submissions, private notes, and saved reactions stay connected to your account.

  2. 2

    Paste lab notes

Paste a lab notebook entry into AI Upload. If copying text is inconvenient, you can use the photo option to extract text first.

  3. 3

    Review the chemistry

Check names, SMILES, outcome labels, evidence, and inferred products before saving.

  4. 4

    Save the failed reaction

Choose public or private visibility, then save the record.

  5. 5

    Search before repeating work

Look up prior failures by reaction class, substrate, solvent, outcome, or evidence.

AI-generated fields and SMILES are suggestions. Verify structures, reaction interpretation, and evidence before relying on a record.
